Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, or Restaurant Akershus as is was formerly known, is inspired by the Norwegian castles of the same name, one the oldest and most impressive of Norway's medieval fortresses, and sets the scene for Princess Storybook Dining, one of the two character meals located in Epcot.
Restaurant Akershus was previously a Norwegian buffet and although consistently received good reviews, remained largely overlooked by guests, who perhaps found the creamed herring and meatballs in cream sauce to be not to their palate. And so, Restaurant Akershus was reinvented as Akesrhus Royal Banquet Hall, and became THE place to rub elbows with Disney princesses and leading ladies.
The menu itself has also been transformed, and now features less "exotic" Norwegian specialties, instead leaning dishes inspired by Norwegian cuisine catering to American tastes.
The restaurant is no longer a buffet. Breakfast is served family style. For lunch and dinner, appetizers are served family style followed by entrées.
Akershus Royal Banquet Hall has become an extremely popular dining spot and can book up months in ahead. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended.
